Katey Blagden, MSW, LICSW
Psychotherapist
(she/her)
From a relational and person-centered lens, I work with individuals(21+) navigating changes in life that have left them feeling uncertain about who they are and the direction that they are going. I love supporting people in navigating relational conflict, managing anxiety and/or perfectionism, boundary setting, and identity exploration. I also love working with individuals that are new to therapy!
Some would call me their ‘therapist friend’. While I believe professional boundaries are crucial to the therapeutic process, my goal is that our sessions will feel more like you are meeting with a curious friend than what you may think of as a traditional therapist. My approach is warm, directive, playful, and conversational.
My work pulls from a variety of approaches and theories so that your unique goals can be met in therapy. Currently, I am training to become certified in IFS (Internal Family Systems). I am drawn to this approach because it lovingly supports clients as they explore their inner worlds. I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). Both as a counselor and as an individual, I strive to better understand the systems in which we exist and to recognize how they impact individuals, communities, and mental health.
After living in the PNW on and off for 10 years, I now live and practice in my home state, Vermont. Outside of the therapeutic space, I spend my days exploring Vermont’s coniferous forests with my dog, Frankie. I love hosting dinner parties, embarking on new creative pursuits, and drinking tea. I received my masters in Social Work from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA and spent some fundamental years living, working and playing in the Big Easy. My background is in community mental health, specializing in work with young adults experiencing homelessness.
