Melanie Simpson, MA, LMFTA
Individual, Couple, and Family Therapist
New Start Therapy
I work with individuals, couples, teens, and families to help them find “a new start.”
I specialize in treating anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, burnout, issues with self-esteem, and managing stress. I provide a safe, compassionate space for clients to explore their emotions, identify patterns of behavior, and develop practical tools for coping with life’s difficulties. Together, we will identify your goals for change, and work collaboratively to achieve them. Whether you are struggling with persistent anxiety, past trauma, or are simply seeking greater clarity and personal growth, I am here to support you every step of the way.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFTA), and as such I work from a systems approach to therapy. A systemic approach to therapy means that we don’t just examine an individual's functioning, but we also look at the system one finds themselves in, plus how that system impacts the individual (and vice versa). We are all shaped by where we come from and that informs so much of what we do, how we do it, and how we feel about ourselves. LMFTs view individuals and their problems in this larger context, allowing for strengths to emerge and holistic treatment to empower the clients.
I am dedicated to helping individuals and couples navigate their emotional and psychological challenges in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. I approach therapy with compassion, respect, and a commitment to understanding the unique experiences and needs of each person. Using a variety of therapeutic techniques, I work with clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in order to promote healing, growth, and self-awareness.
I have a Masters of Arts Degree from Pacific Lutheran University in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Bachelors of Arts Degree from Washington State University in Social Sciences, with a concentration in Psychology and Human Development. I have completed The Gottman Trainings, levels 1 and 2, and I am currently working on their “Treating Affairs and Trauma” course. Additionally, I am a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and Washington Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.
